Indian River Lakes Scholarship Program

Since 2002, the Indian River Lakes Conservancy (IRLC) has awarded scholarships to hardworking high school students hoping to pursue a career in the environmental field.

Each year, 6-7 scholarships are awarded in the amount of $1,000 each and distributed to students after they have submitted their first semester grades.

Students are recommended by counselors from six area high schools, including Alexandria Bay, Carthage, Hammond, Indian River, La Fargeville, and Thousand Islands, as well as Jefferson Community College. Recommendations are accepted throughout the school year until early May.

Prior to graduation, the IRLC Scholarship Committee selects the recipients and awards scholarships during end-of-year award ceremonies.

Selected recipients' goals and interests are varied. Past recipients have gone on to attend Jefferson Community College, the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Paul Smith's College, ranger school, and more.
