IRLC initiates a new program to protect threatened birds

We’re thrilled to announce a new partnership with The American Bird Conservancy and the Ruffed Grouse Society to support young forest habitat management on our Grand Lake Reserve. This project is part of our commitment to preserving the diverse ecosystems within our region, especially as our northern forests continue to age.

With the decline of the logging and paper industries, many northern forests have experienced reduced harvesting, causing them to mature beyond the early growth stages that certain bird species rely on. Young forest habitats are essential for species such as the Golden-winged Warbler, American Woodcock, and Ruffed Grouse, all of which are now facing challenges due to the transformation of young forests into mature woodlands.

This partnership allows us to actively manage and restore young forest areas, ensuring that these threatened species have the vital habitats they need to thrive. Thanks to your support, we can protect these birds and the landscapes they call home. Together, we’re working to safeguard biodiversity and foster a sustainable future for our local wildlife.

Join us in preserving these special places and the creatures that depend on them. With your continued support, we can make a lasting impact on conservation for generations to come.
