While mapping and cutting the trails in the Baker Woods Preserve 7 or 8 years ago, Liam Carney began to pay closer attention to the trees, plants and fungi of his native woods. After moving back to Natural Bridge, he began to cultivate shiitakes on hardwood logs in a white spruce plantation that his parents planted the year he was born.

For the past several years, he has been growing a wide variety of specialty mushrooms for market as Cogumelo Mushrooms. Liam has certification as a Community Mushroom Educator through the Cornell Small Farms program and as an expert in wild mushroom identification by Mushroom Mountain.
