Rob A. Sartwell joined the Board of Directors in 2025. A native of Dexter, Rob now resides just outside the village of Croghan in Lewis County, where he has embraced the natural beauty of the region. His introduction to the Indian River Lakes area came during his time living in Theresa and Redwood, where he spent many summer afternoons paddling on the lakes in his rowboat, fishing, and taking in the peaceful surroundings. After moving away, Rob’s connection to the area never faded, and memories of the lakes continued to inspire him.

Out on the trails one afternoon, Rob discovered the Grass Lake trail, an experience that rekindled his deep love for the area. Determined to give back, he reached out to the IRLC, made a donation, and was soon volunteering his time. Rob has since become an active member of both the Stewardship Committee and the Land Acquisition Committee, dedicating much of his free time to preserving the area’s unique landscapes.

In addition to his volunteer work, Rob has started a guide service called EYE5IMAGES, offering trips to lesser-known spots around the region. Through this venture, he shares his passion for the Indian River Lakes and its stunning natural features while donating a portion of the proceeds to the IRLC. Rob also supports the IRLC, contributing monthly as a Lake Guardian to the organization’s efforts.

With extensive travel experience via the military across the US, Canada, and Western Europe, Rob appreciates the Indian River Lakes region as a truly unmatched gem. He works in Sales, Marketing, and Consulting for McQuade & Bannigan in Watertown. In his personal life, Rob is proud to be a father to three stepchildren and enjoys the company of around ten unofficial grandchildren, all of whom share his love for the outdoors and the IRLC’s trails.

Rob is honored to serve on the IRLC Board of Directors and looks forward to many more years of helping protect and promote the exceptional natural resources of the Indian River Lakes region.

Fun Fact

The Indian River Lakes preserves are located within a critical region of the Algonquin to Adirondacks (A2A) wildlife corridor. Indian River Lakes Conservancy protected lands benefit both the local environment and the larger continental system of wildlife movement, range requirements, and safeguarded habitat.
