Mike grew up in Northern NY, spending summers on Payne Lake and the St. Lawrence River, where he developed a strong attraction to the area.
After college and the military, Mike served in law enforcement for 29 years until retiring in 1999. His second career, a full-time pilot for an international freight company based in Europe took him out of the area for several years. Mike missed the North Country after 15 years, and he and his wife, Libby, decided that it was time to return to the area they enjoy so much.
Black Lake is now Mike and Libby’s home. They settled on the southeast shore of the lake and became involved with the local community, trying to help preserve and maintain this beautiful area for the next generation is what drives them to serve on the Indian River Lakes Conservancy (IRLC) board.
Mike is one of the founding members of the IRLC. His historical knowledge, professional expertise, and sense of humor make him and Libby vital members of the IRLC family.
Common Loons are some of the most iconic Indian River Lakes residents. Unlike most bird species, loons have solid bones. This makes them less buoyant and more effective at maneuvering through water.
