Mike Chetwin
Mike Chetwin was born and raised in Upstate NY. Growing up, he spent his summers recreating on the Indian River Lakes and considers himself lucky to have been able to enjoy the fresh water, air, and woods as child and young adult.
In 1998, Mike became one of the founders of the IRLC and was IRLC’s first Vice-President. Now, he serves as the Land Acquisition and Stewardship Committee Chairman. Mike is also a member of the Black Lake Association.
Mike’s education includes an undergraduate degree in Political Science from SUNY Plattsburg a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and Law from from Kansas University, at Lawrence, Kansas (Go Jayhawks!)
Mike’s professional experience started with time spent in the Air Force and Army as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. After the military, Mike served in NY Law Enforcement for 28 years, while also flying part time for FedEx. Mike flew mainly between Newark, NJ and Brussels, Belgium.
Mike and his wife, Libby, own a cottage on Black Lake, where they spend about 7 months a year. The rest of the time, they live between homes in Central Square, NY and Cherry Pocket, FL. Libby is retired from her family boat business in the Finger Lakes region of NY, where she and Mike met. He was hired as a Captain of a cruise boat and ended up marrying the boss’s daughter!
They both enjoy hunting, boating and flying around Northern NY. As Mike says, “It’s a great life!”
