Elliott D. Hillback, Jr. (also known as Sandy) and his wife Margie have owned a camp on the Western shore of Butterfield Lake since 1977. The cottage was originally purchased by her grandparents over 100 years ago in 1914. Elliott and Margie were founding members of the Indian River Lakes Conservancy in 1997. Serving on the IRLC Board since that time he was the IRLC’s first President for approximately two years and is has served as the President again since 2011.

Elliott retired in 2011 after 39 years in general management positions the health care and
biotechnology industry (Baxter-Travenol, British Oxygen, Genzyme). He was also very active in the development of both industry and public policy related to health care, genetic testing, the use and growth of biotechnology and bio-ethics.

Elliott is a member of the New York Advisory Board of the Land Trust Alliance. He has been a long term member of the Advisory Council to the Dean of Cornell University’s College of Arts &
Sciences and is a member of Cornell’s University Council. He also served as a Board Member of Berklee College of Music for nine years.

Mr. Hillback earned a BA in Anthropology from Cornell University in 1970 and an MBA from
Harvard Business School in 1972. Before attending Cornell he served as an artillery Officer
in the US Army for 4 years which included a tour in Vietnam. Elliott is an active nature
photographer, fisherman and traveler. Elliott and his wife Marjorie have been married since
1965 and have three married adult children and 7.3 grandchildren. They reside near Boston in the
winter and at Butterfield Lake in Redwood, NY from late spring to mid-fall.
